The Sonar Legal Add-in for Word is a Microsoft Word integration that delivers AI-powered legal document analysis and drafting tools right inside your workflow. This add-in helps legal professionals streamline review processes, enhance contract intelligence, and enforce consistency across legal documentation.

Installation​

There are three ways to install Sonar Legal Add-In for Word:

Option 2: Microsoft AppSource​

  1. Launch any Microsoft Word document and navigate to the Home tab.
  2. Click on the Add-ins icon. Select "More Add-ins" or "Get Add-ins", depending on your version of Word.

  1. In the Office Add-ins dialog box, type "Sonar" into the search bar and press Enter. Locate Sonar Legal in the results and click Add.

  1. Wait a moment for the installation to complete.

Option 3: Install for Organization​

To ensure Sonar Legal is available to the entire team without manual installation, you can have an administrator in your organization follow these steps to enable Centralized Deployment: 

  1. Access the Admin Portal
  • Go to the https://admin.microsoft.com and sign in with an Administrator account.
  • In the left navigation menu, click Settings, then select Integrated apps.
  • Near the top of the Integrated apps page, click the Add-ins link.
  • Click Deploy Add-in at the top of the page and click Next on the wizard.

  1. Locate and Select the Add-in
  • Select "I want to add an add-in from the Office Store".

  • Search for Sonar Legal, select it, and Accept the terms and conditions.

  1. Assign Users and Finalize
  • Under Assign users, choose the deployment scope:
    • Everyone: Deploys to the entire organization.
    • Specific users/groups: Deploys only to selected teams.

  • Set the Deployment method to Fixed. This ensures the add-in appears automatically in the Word ribbon for all assigned users.
  • Click Deploy.

Once the administrator completes these steps, it can take up to 24 hours for the Sonar Legal icon to appear in Microsoft Word for all users.

    • Office 365 Versions: All versions supported
    • Perpetual Licensed Versions:
      • Office 2024 (retail and volume-licensed)
      • Office 2021 (retail and volume-licensed)
      • Office 2019 (retail only)
      • Office 2016 (retail only)

Unsupported Versions: Unfortunately, Office 2019 and Office 2016 in their volume-licensed forms are not compatible with Sonar Legal because they lack support for WebView2, the modern browser technology required by all modern Office add-ins. This is a universal limitation that affects all Office add-ins on the market. If you attempt to run Sonar Legal on an unsupported version, the add-in will remain stuck on the Loading screen. Consider updating to a supported version of Word.
