The Sonar Legal Add-in for Word is a Microsoft Word integration that delivers AI-powered legal document analysis and drafting tools right inside your workflow. This add-in helps legal professionals streamline review processes, enhance contract intelligence, and enforce consistency across legal documentation.

Installation​

There are three ways to install Sonar Legal Add-In for Word:

Option 2: Microsoft AppSource​

  1. Launch any Microsoft Word document and navigate to the Home tab.
  2. Click on the Add-ins icon. Select "More Add-ins" or "Get Add-ins", depending on your version of Word.

  1. In the Office Add-ins dialog box, type "Sonar" into the search bar and press Enter. Locate Sonar Legal in the results and click Add.

  1. Wait a moment for the installation to complete.

Signing In

When you first launch Sonar Legal, we recommend signing in with your Microsoft work or school account:

  • Continue with Microsoft (Recommended): Logs you in with your Microsoft work or school account.
  • Continue with email (Fallback): Sends a one-time verification code to your email. Note: Using email sign-in is not compatible with features that require M365 Opt-In.

If your organization does not yet use Sonar Legal, select Book a demo.

Option 3: Deploy for your organization​

Use this option if an IT administrator will install Sonar Legal for users or groups.

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Add-ins page with an administrator account.

    If the direct link does not open, go to Settings > Integrated apps > Add-ins.

  2. Select Deploy Add-In, then select Choose from the Store.

  3. Select Word from the left side panel, search for sonar, then click Add next to Sonar Legal.

  4. Accept the terms and assign the add-in to users or groups authorized to use Sonar Legal. Start with a small pilot group, confirm that the add-in works, then expand the assignment to the remaining authorized users.

  5. Set the deployment method to Fixed, then select Deploy.

Users may need to restart Word. Microsoft advises that centrally deployed add-ins can take 24–72 hours to appear.

If your organization also uses Sonar for Outlook, complete the separate Microsoft 365 authorization.

    • Office 365 Versions: All versions supported
    • Perpetual Licensed Versions:
      • Office 2024 (retail and volume-licensed)
      • Office 2021 (retail and volume-licensed)
      • Office 2019 (retail only)
      • Office 2016 (retail only)
Warning

Unsupported Versions: Unfortunately, Office 2019 and Office 2016 in their volume-licensed forms are not compatible with Sonar Legal because they lack support for WebView2, the modern browser technology required by all modern Office add-ins. This is a universal limitation that affects all Office add-ins on the market. If you attempt to run Sonar Legal on an unsupported version, the add-in will remain stuck on the Loading screen. Consider updating to a supported version of Word.
